What is The Red Rabbit? |
|
The Red Rabbit is first and foremost an online publication dedicated to writing. I started out wanting to make an equal opportunity journal, open to any and all writers with the will and desire. But in my own search to be published, I began to find that many of the upper crust literary journals didn’t seem to consider many urban minorities like myself suitable for publication. I know that there are many many extraordinarily talented writers out there telling tales of ghetto love, poverty, alienation from the system and the world at large and a lot of the other issues faced in Urbania. And, not possessing the talent to conform, these writers’ words never see the light of day.
We want to make that different at The Red Rabbit. Our goal is to be the platform these artists stand on. Our goal is to introduce the world at large to a side of urban life they may never have been seen or heard of. We are more than thugs, young mothers and inmates. We are foot soldiers in a seemingly never-ending battle to show the world we are just as great, just as capable and that we will endure. From the brothas on the corner to the burricua, to the sisters trekking back and forth through the city trying to achieve and be educated, to working to keep our heads from hanging too low, we are a nation of the unheard.
I know those are big dreams for a literary magazine. But I believe in big dreams. And if my belief can help someone realize their talent and bring recognition to these artists, then I’m going to keep dreaming and believing. That is what the Red Rabbit is all about. Believing. Dreaming.
